IMG_3832.jpg

Ashley Adams-Orwig  has been teaching private music lessons for over 15 years and has been a musician for over 25.  Her primary instrument is alto saxophone and holds a B.A. in Music from St. Mary's College of Maryland where she focused on neoclassical composers such as Paul Creston.  Although Ashley's main instrument is saxophone she also plays the flute, bassoon, clarinet, and piano.  Teaching the piano to young learners is her favorite and specialty!  She has also spent several years in Calvert County Public Schools in the Special Education,  Structured Learning Environment (SLE) as well as an aide/one on one for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Favorite Composers: Liszt, Czerny, Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Satie

Favorite Piano Method Series: Piano Adventure

Favorite Woodwind Technique Book:  Trevor Wye Practice Book for Flute (Book 1-6)

When it comes to teaching, my philosophy is to dedicate the entire lesson session to each individual's learning style and preference.  This is why I prefer private instruction as opposed to group or public.  What may work well for one student may not work well for another.  I enjoy taking the time working with students to develop healthy and effective practice habits they can carry with them out of their music lesson.
